The Grand Tour of Italy | 6 Reds from Barolo to Primitivo

Six of our best-selling reds, from Piedmont all the way down to Puglia.

Start in Piedmont with Barolo and Barbaresco, head down through Tuscany for Chianti Riserva, Bolgheri and Brunello, and finish in Puglia with UNO Primitivo. If you want to understand Italian red wine without reading a book about it, this is the case. Between these six bottles you get most of what makes Italian red wine great.

The route

  • Barolo DOCG 2019, Carlin de Paolo (Piedmont). The king of wines and the wine of kings. Cherry and dried rose, then violet and a little spice, with firm tannins and a long, savory finish. Open it an hour before dinner and put a juicy steak next to it.
  • Barbaresco DOCG 2020, Ciabot (Piedmont). The queen. Same grape as Barolo, Nebbiolo, a little more elegant. Violet and rosehip, spice as it opens, gentle tannins.
  • Chianti Riserva DOCG 2022, Etrusca Organic (Tuscany). One of our best sellers. Sangiovese aged 24 months in oak, with cherry, red berry and ripe tannins. The pasta-night bottle.
  • Bolgheri DOC "Bridges" 2021, Roselli (Tuscany). The coastal Super Tuscan: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Black cherry, plum and violet.
  • Sofia Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2021 (Tuscany). Our own Brunello, made for us by a small family estate in Montalcino and aged 36 months in oak. Ripe cherry, chocolate and spice.
  • UNO Primitivo di Manduria DOC, Masseria Lavolpe (Puglia). Some of our customers order this one by the case. Ripe plum, cherry and sweet spice. The 2023 vintage scored 98 points from Luca Maroni. A real crowd pleaser.

Why these six

Each one shows a different side of Italy: Nebbiolo up north, three very different Tuscan reds, and the ripe, generous south. If you've only had one or two Italian reds, this is the fastest way to find your favorite.

Every wine in here is also sold on its own on our site, so if one becomes a favorite, you know where to find it. The case is the easy way to get all six without picking each one yourself.

Bought separately, these six come to about $297. The case is $269 with shipping included.

Six 750 ml bottles. Free shipping. Adult signature required. Vintages may vary; if a bottle runs out, we swap in one of equal or higher value.
