Burgundy
Real Burgundy from small family domaines. Authentic Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that overdeliver in quality and price. From Chablis to Côte d'Or to the Mâconnais.
New to Burgundy? How the four levels work
How Burgundy is ranked
The name on a Burgundy label is a place, not a producer. Four levels, widest to narrowest.
-
Regional.$26-$63
Bourgogne, Mâcon, Hautes-Côtes. Grapes from a wide area. Where the value is.
-
Village.$85-$169
Chablis, Gevrey-Chambertin, Meursault, Volnay. One named commune. The place starts to show in the glass.
-
Premier Cru.$99-$229
A named vineyard inside a village, on better ground. Written 1er Cru with the vineyard after it, as in Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru “Les Narbantons”.
-
Grand Cru.$239+
About 1% of Burgundy. The vineyard carries the whole name and the village drops off: Corton, Corton-Charlemagne.
Higher up the ladder doesn't mean better on a Tuesday. A village Gevrey from a careful producer beats a lazy Premier Cru most nights. We buy from eight family domaines and one boutique négociant. Buying direct from a domaine keeps the price down. The négociant is how a small importer gets Gevrey Premier Cru and Corton at all.
Zero Additives
No Mega Purple, no added sugar, no flavor additives. Just grapes.
Nine Burgundy Producers
Eight family domaines and one boutique négociant. We buy in Burgundy ourselves.
