Four classic Piemonte grapes in one bottle. Dolcetto, Pinot Noir, Nebbiolo, and Barbera, all from Giribaldi's organic hillside vineyards in the Langhe. This is what everyday Italian wine is supposed to taste like, and at $27.90 it's one of the best values in the shop.

The Dolcetto and Pinot Noir come from Rodello at 500 meters elevation on marl-limestone soils. The Nebbiolo comes from a south-facing site in Montelupo Albese. The Barbera is from Alba at 350 meters. Each grape is vinified traditionally at controlled temperature for 7 days, then the blend ages 24 months in tonneaux and barrique.

The result is a wine with real depth for the price. Ruby red with aromas of sour cherry and currants, tobacco, vanilla, and a touch of liquorice. Warm and full in the mouth with fruity undergrowth and enough structure from the Nebbiolo to keep things interesting. This is a 2016 with nearly a decade of age, drinking in a beautiful window right now.
