Southern Tuscany highest DOCG appellation - a little brother of famous BRUNELLO. Red blend of Sangiovese(90%), known there as Morellino and a little of other red grapes -Cabrent, Merlot, Syrah - is produced in the rolling coastal hills around the medieval village of Scansano and its volcanic soils. Brilliant and ruby red, intense. Very elegant bouquet with typical Sangiovese sensations. The incipit on the nose is of red fruits as redcurrant and wild strawberry . Mouthfilling. Perfect combination of spices and violet hints. Fresh and crisp , pleasantly silky, harmonic and persistent with a long finish. Aged up to 18 months in barrique, 13,00% vol. AWARD :95 PINTS, I MIGLIORI VINI ITALIANI - LUCA MARONI
The Morellino name is a diminutive form of morello, and so translates as "little dark one". This etymology is almost identical to another of Sangiovese's many synonyms, Brunello. A few sources suggest that morello refers to a breed of horse unique to this part of Tuscany. Scansano's viticultural origins date back to Etruscan times, and the quality of the local wines has been documented for centuries.
