The name “Les Mariages” (“the marriages”) comes from a local tradition — the people of Beaune would stroll through this vineyard after wedding banquets, where different wedding parties from the neighborhood would often meet and mingle. The wine is vinified in open vats for 2 to 3 weeks to capture the full richness of the terroir, then aged in oak barrels for 20 to 24 months. Domaine Besancenot Beaune 1er Cru “à l’Ecu” 2018, Domaine Besa... $89.90 $101.00
Located north of Beaune at the highest point of the slope, the 1er Cru “À l’Ecu” benefits from limestone-rich soils and exceptional exposure. It is one of the smallest Premier Cru sites in Beaune, shared among just three owners. The name “à l’Ecu” dates to the Middle Ages, referring to the enclosure where winegrowers once paid their taxes to the Dukes of Burgundy. Hand-harvested fruit is vinified in open vats following traditional Burgundian methods, with gentle cap-punching and long maceration to extract depth and perfume. The wine is then aged in oak barrels (2 to 5 years old) for up to 24 months, emphasizing the purity of the terroir over oak influence. On the nose, it offers lifted aromas of bright red and black fruits, fresh earth, and subtle spice. The palate shows supple tannins and silky texture balanced by vivid fruit and a mineral core. 2004 Sanctuary Bien Nacido Vineyard Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir
VintageDP 2004 Sanctuary Bien Nacido Vineyard Santa M... $139.00
Winemaker Dennis Martin focuses on Blocks N, G and Q from Bien Nacido Vineyard that are planted primarily to the Pommard clone. Aged 15 months in primarily Francois Frèrés oak barrels, 60% new and 40% once-used. · The exotic nose includes cooked cherries, burnt toffee and spice. The flavors remind me of an arugula salad with strawberries and cherries (there is a subtle note of pepper in arugula which is also typical of Pinot Noir from Bien Nacido Vineyard). Lush and voluptuous, but elegant and balanced, this is a complete Pinot of distinction. Impressive debut.  14.3% alc.,        Wine Enthusiast 92/100
2006 Melville Estate Pinot Noir, Sta Rita Hills, USA
VintageDP 2006 Melville Estate Pinot Noir, Sta Rita H... $149.00
The 2006 Melville Pinot Noir from Sta. Rita Hills is a highly-rated wine known for its complexity, rich fruit flavors, and elegant profile. While the vintage is a bit older, reviews suggest it was a successful year for the region, showing smooth tannins and fresh fruit. Specific reviews mention flavors of cherry, plum, and currant, with notes of spice, earth, and eucalyptus, and it's often praised for being both powerful and elegant. 93/100 Robert Parker: "The most impressive Pinot Noir for immediate drinking (but certainly capable of lasting a decade as well) is the 2006 Pinot Noir Melville. Sweet floral notes intermixed with black raspberry, black cherry, damp earth, and roasted herbs are followed by a wine with terrific purity, a layered, full-bodied mouth feel, and sweet tannin (the ripest tannins of any of these Pinots). This wine should drink very well young as well as much older."  "Here's a big, rich, full-bodied and rather extracted wine, made in a powerful style. It shows a gamut of well-ripened cherry, blackberry pie, licorice, grilled wild mushroom and forest floor components, with significant tannins." 15.1% alc.,        Wine Enthusiast 92/100
