Wild blueberries, tree ripened plums, raspberry popovers, marzipan, graphite, licorice whip, milk chocolate and forest floor. The estate’s hallmark notes of violets and crushed rock are ever present. This wine is supremely generous and approachable in its youth, however, its elegance and power make a strong argument for cellaring over the next 20 years. “The biggest cuvée that Herold makes for Robert Kamen is the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, at 2,100 cases, from a vineyard dominated by the volcanic basalt elevation between 1,100 and 1,500 feet. It sits above the iconic Monte Rosso Vineyard, owned by Gallo. Blueberry and blackberry fruit, forest floor, dusty/loamy notes, roasted herbs and meats all jump from the glass of this opaque purple wine. Winemaking: our Cabernet grow up in the Langhe and Roero hills. Once the grapes achieve the right ripeness degree, the harvested bunches are transported to the cellar where they are carefully selected and destemmed.
Softly pressed it stored in steel tanks for the first fermentation phase when the colour, aromas, tannins and structure from the skin of the berries are extracted. After this first phase, they are separated and transferred to tonneaux and barriques.
Malolactic fermentation takes place inside the barriques and tonneaux, where they remain for at least 18 months. In the following months the wine refines through the exchange of oxygen allowed by the porosity of the wood, which softens the tannin making it less invasive and more elegant and enriching the wine with a greater complexity of aromas such as the hint of vanilla typical of oak.
Winemaker notes: An austere, complex, generally very aromatic wine, which expresses all the wonders of the forest and the pristine mountains. On the nose, mainly emerge wild berries, black cherry, plum, perfectly integrated with the vegetable scents of the undergrowth, musk, pine needles, oak leaves. But a more careful analysis will reveal the more material organoleptic characteristics, linked to the rock, graphite often with balsamic puffs, black pepper and ink. Flaviana Fia

Lovers of Inglenook's old wines will recognize the name Niebaum, which refers to that winery's founder, a sea captain named Gustave Niebaum. Francis Coppola acquired much of the property and began reconstructing the estate back in the mid-1970s. Located in Rutherford, this is an exemplary place for Bordeaux varietals in California. The name "Rubicon" is a classical reference to Caesar's march on Rome--'the crossing of the Rubicon'--meant to suggest a point of no return, appropriate for Niebaum-Coppola's flagship production. A proprietary blend, this is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate's prime vineyard blocks planted to the original Niebaum Cabernet clone, with only small amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

With complex aromatics of tobacco, truffle, cassis and fresh leaves were a pleasure to spend with, Medium bodied with elegant textures, the wine finished with spicy cassis. The wine was made blending 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc.Chateau Brane Cantenac is usually better with at least 10 years of bottle age.
