  Dense cherry red color with hints of raspberry. First impressions on the palate are voluminous and soft, with a silky-smooth finish. Produced by the exceptional Cantina Kaltern winery from the Südtirol/Alto Adige DOC region. Food-Wine Coupling: Heavier meat courses, game and piquant hard cheeses. Grape: Pinot Nero Age of vines: 6-21 years; Age ability: 2022; Acc:13.5% East-facing, sloping vineyards located at 450 – 550 meters above sea level. Loamy, chalky gravel with a small proportion of sand. Fermentation on the skins at 23 °C with an eight days extended maceration, malolactic and a 4-month aging in big wooden barrels and large casks. Bright ruby red in the glass with a multi-layered aromatic profile combining fresh cassis and cranberries wi the slightly balsamic and ear thy, fleshy notes reminiscent of coffee and eucalyptus. Firm and power ful on the palate wi the hints of dark berries and peppery notes, soft , very fine-grained tannin. Delicate and slightly minerally finish with lots of finesse. An exceptional wine for exceptional moments. Red blend: 60% Merlot , 40% Cab. Sauv Spontaneous fermentation in the wooden fermentation vat; three-week mash maceration; placed into the new wooden barrels. (70% new oak) in early-November; spontaneous malolactic fermentation; 18 months in small barrels with two racking; bottled in May of 2017, with a light filtration. Low stock

Grape: 100% Vernatsch/Schiava .Schiava is a Alto Adige variety that was long underrated to the point of being almost forgotten, just like the old limekiln after which the vineyard is named. Elegant power has enabled Kalkofen to rise phoenix-like from its ashes and cast a stylish spell over the world. The wine’s versatility and grace will tempt you to drop the pearl of your soul into a glass of this nectar. VINIFICATION : the small Vernatsch grapes come from the oldest vines in the vineyard, and were selected by hand for this wine. The fermentation began spontaneously in the wooden fermentation vat, with a ten-day maceration period. Following an eight month maturation period in barrique and big wood barrels, the wine was bottled in late-April. TASTING NOTES: this wine is a pure pleasure. Luminous ruby red, fruity aromas of forest berries and cherries, velvet tannins with a unique structure and minerality make this wine unique. An ideal wine to accompany light Mediterranean cuisine.  An ideal wine to accompany light Mediterranean cuisine including fish and see food dishes. Wine you drink when thirsty !
