NAPA style Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva.  Winemaking:  our Cabernet grow up in the Langhe and Roero hills. Once the grapes achieve the right ripeness degree, the harvested bunches are transported to the cellar where they are carefully selected and destemmed.  Softly pressed it stored in steel tanks for the first fermentation phase when the colour, aromas, tannins and structure from the skin of the berries are extracted.  After this first phase, they are separated and  transferred to tonneaux and barriques. Malolactic fermentation takes place inside the barriques and tonneaux, where they remain  for at least 18 months. In the following months the wine refines through the exchange of oxygen allowed by the porosity of the wood, which softens the tannin making it less invasive and more elegant and enriching the wine with a greater complexity of aromas such as the hint of vanilla typical of oak. Winemaker notes: An austere, complex, generally very aromatic wine, which expresses all the wonders of the forest and the pristine mountains. On the nose, mainly emerge wild berries, black cherry, plum, perfectly integrated with the vegetable scents of the undergrowth, musk, pine needles, oak leaves. But a more careful analysis will reveal the more material organoleptic characteristics, linked to the rock, graphite often with balsamic puffs, black pepper and ink. Flaviana Fia

90 points Wine Spectator: Smooth texture, with firm, complex, coffee ground, currant, leather and spice, showing a beefy side on the finish, where the tannins firm up. Well-balanced. (JL -2002).  The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for Provenance Vineyards come from the renowned Rutherford sub-appellation of Napa Valley, California. These grapes are grown by respected grower Andy Beckstoffer in classic Rutherford soil, which has excellent drainage and protection from the drying wind. The 2000 is very much in a Bordeaux style - exceptional length and balance with bright, red cherry fruit Bordeaux blend: 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, 5% Petite Sirah

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is a masterful blend of the best Cabernet fruit from the Envy Estate Vineyard and the Oso Vineyard in the Eastern corner of Napa Valley. Rich, ample and powerful this wine envelops the palate and shows remarkable depth and intensity.

Winemaker Notes: With richness and depth of flavor, the 2018 Timeless Napa Valley is the embodiment of patience and attention to detail. Decades of experience at Soda Canyon Ranch allow winemaker Nate Weis and team to highlight the individual merits of each block. Combining the strongest lots from each resulted in a refined and harmonious bottling. In 2018, the diurnal shift at Soda Canyon Ranch produced a darker, lusher fruit profile of Cabernet Sauvignon. Simultaneously, the overnight recovery periods resulted in expressive and refined Merlot, giving the wine a pleasant profile of bright, red fruit. With an extended harvest window, the signature, plush density and structure of Petit Verdot is also prevalent in the final blend. Cabernet Franc thrived in 2018 with its predilection for the cooler soils and the climate of blocks 5, 6, 16, 20 and 21—areas we call the Transition Zone and Hardpan Alley. The variety’s floral and tobacco-like aromatics are accentuated, and its more aggressive nature for back-end tannins tamed. Once blended, the 2018 vintage rested in French oak barrels for 16 months, developing flavors of vanilla and baking spice. Velvety tannins dance across the palate of bright and lingering cassis. With a smooth finish, this is a comforting wine of elegance and depth—a sophisticated expression of the sedate summer VINTAGE DESCRIPTION :In vintages of abundance, the beauty at Soda Canyon Ranch never ceases to astonish. Steady winter rains quenched the hillsides through the end of May. An impressive fruit set was the result of mild temperatures and ideal conditions through the spring, and long, warm summer days followed by cool evenings helped develop a balanced crop load. A leisurely season was met with calm anticipation as we waited patiently for the fruit to develop. Then, all at once, we quickly and diligently picked the remarkable bounty of vibrant and intense fruit, confirming that 2018 would long be remembered as a vintage of exceptional quality. James Suckling 93 points This is a little old-school and shows lots of dark berry, chocolate and dried fruit. It’s full, dense and layered with fleshly sensibility.

PARKER 95 pts. Wine Spectator 96 pts. The 2001 Sori San Lorenzo is the richest and deepest of these 2001s. It remains cool, inward and totally implosive. Dark fruit, leather, goudron and licorice are some of the notes that begin to emerge over time. The 2001 is dazzling, but it is also very much on the muscular side and needs time to soften. I imagine it will drink beautifully for another 20 years, and that is likely to be conservative in light of the glacial pace with which the San Lorenzo ages. Winemaker notes: Almost always the most powerful and austere of Gaja's 5 single-vineyard wines, requiring a longer time to fully develop. Highly concentrated currant and black cherry fruit with a hint of coffee in addition to aromas of fine herbs, minerals and exotic spices. 100 points Jeb Dunnuck: Just pure gold, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard CCS is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from one of California's greatest terroirs, that was brought up in 100% new French oak. This dense purple-colored effort has a magical bouquet of pure crème de cassis, smoke tobacco, white flowers, crushed stone, truffle, and hints of chocolate. Possessing full-bodied richness, this beauty builds incrementally on the palate, showing lots of ripe, polished tannins, no hard edges, and a rare mix of power, structure, and elegance that's something to behold. Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, or red wine for that matter, just doesn't get any better. Hats off to winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown for yet another majestic, singular wine that’s as good as it gets.   97 points Wine Advocate: Schrader’s CCS comes from Beckstoffer’s To Kalon vineyard in Oakville, produced from clone 4 grown on the C1 block. It is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 100% new Darnajou and Taransaud French oak barrels for 18 months. Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon CCS Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard rolls effortlessly out of the glass with profound notions of baked plums, boysenberries, blackberry pie and cassis, leading to hints of mocha, tapenade and black truffles. Full-bodied, concentrated and with a rock-solid backbone of grainy tannins, it delivers muscular black fruit and savory flavors, leading to a long, earthy finish. 97 points Wine Spectator:  Vivid, with lush cassis, plum and boysenberry compote flavors rolling through, carried by substantial structure that pulls in warm earth, sweet tobacco, licorice root and sweet bay leaf notes. A violet echo weaves through on the finish as the fruit and earth notes meld. This is Oakville.  96 points James Suckling: Fruity and relatively elegant. Toasted notes, nuts and vanilla, as well as blackberries. The palate is well balanced and velvety with subtle power. Full and flavorful. Finishes a tiny bit short, but should open with time.
