100% Merlot from one of the best Italian wine regions - Collio, Friuli    Planting year • 1967 - 2000 The grapes are collected on the basis of sensory analysis in the pre-harvest period: maximum maturation of skins and tannins is sought. This wine ferments at a controlled temperature of 26 °C. It remains on its skins for a period of 20 days during which the color and structure of the wine is extracted. It is refined in small oaken barrels with 500 l capacity where the malolactic fermentation takes place for a period of 14-16 months. At the end of this process, it is bottled without filtering to preserve its maximum integrity. It is then refined in the bottle for at least 4 months. Collio DOC area is located in the extreme North of Italy, among Slovenia, Austria and the Julian Alps. This charming borderland features ample surfaces facing south, which are perfect for highly qualified viticulture. Here, vine growing dates back to pre-Roman times, and DOC was established in 1968. The palate shows blackberry, stewed raspberry, wild fennel, rainier cherry, a touch of mint and white pepper—with a dusty, pleasantly drying tannin that is perfectly balanced by the wine's lively acidity. Porello was founded in 1930 by Cesare Porello when the region was not yet known for its wines, but rather its peaches. After WWII, his sons, Riccardo and Ettore, went against the tendency of the times, and dedicated themselves instead to working in the vineyards. Today, Marco Porello is the third generation of his family to craft wines from the family estate in Roero, located northwest of Alba on the left bank of the Tanaro River in the Piedmont region. Porello has 15 hectares of vines located in two of Roero’s twenty-three villages, and in some of the region’s most highly regarded vineyard locations, including Mombirone in Canale and Tanone in Vezza d’Alba. The grapes for this 100% Barbera were harvested by hand, destemmed and subsequently fermented in temperature controlled stainless-steel vats. After being gently pressed, the resulting wine was aged in a combination of wooden cask, stainless steel and cement and bottled unfiltered. Food pairing: antipasti,  grilled seasoned vegetables, stews, pastas, breaded veal, pork or chicken milanese with light sauces.

During Prohibition, it managed to obtain a contract to supply sacramental wine to churches, meaning it was able to remain in production between 1920 and 1933 when the Volstead Act was repealed. This makes Beaulieu one of the longest continually operational wineries in the United States.The company was founded in 1900 by Georges de Latour. His background was not in winemaking or vineyard management, so he hired famed enologist André Tchelistcheff to come to Rutherford to establish the estate. Tchelistcheff went on to create the prestige cuvée Library Selection Rutherford Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, and mentored many of the next generation of Napa winemakers, including Robert Mondavi, Mike Grgich and Joe Heitz. Producer The deep roots of Beaulieu Vineyard were first planted back in 1900, when founder Georges de Latour noticed similarities with his native Bordeaux and declared the Napa Valley ideal for winemaking. He followed up on this belief by planting vineyards in Rutherford with grafted, phylloxera-resistant French vines. The Cabernet Sauvignons that de Latour crafted from these grapes gave the world its first taste of California’s promise as a world-class winemaking region. In 1938 de Latour hired the young Russo-French enologist Andre Tchelistcheff, who would become California’s most distinguished winemaker. Tchelistcheff’s knowledge of traditional French techniques and willingness to experiment in local conditions brought BV the Grand Sweepstakes Award at the Golden Gate International Exposition, and led to the creation of Napa Valley’s first reserve wine, Beaulieu Vineyard Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.

 Winery: Our 2002 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a remarkably concentrated black and opaque hue. This is still an impressive wine, with aromas of spiced meats, raspberry compote, and a touch of hay. It has a massive attack and strong flavors of loose tobacco and cassis. It crescendos and builds momentum through the palate towards a long finish still framed by slightly chalky tannins. Given proper cellaring, this wine can be enjoyed now or will improve through 2030. Francis Coppola acquired much of the property and began reconstructing the estate back in the mid-1970s. Located in Rutherford, this is an exemplary place for Bordeaux varietals in California. The name "Rubicon" is a classical reference to Caesar's march on Rome--'the crossing of the Rubicon'--meant to suggest a point of no return, appropriate for Niebaum-Coppola's flagship production. A proprietary blend, this is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate's prime vineyard blocks planted to the original Niebaum Cabernet clone, with only small amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
