FREE shipping.Beaulieu Vineyard is a historically significant winery in California's Rutherford AVA that has been producing wine for more than a century. During Prohibition, it managed to obtain a contract to supply sacramental wine to churches, meaning it was able to remain in production between 1920 and 1933 when the Volstead Act was repealed. This makes Beaulieu one of the longest continually operational wineries in the United States. The company was founded in 1900 by Georges de Latour. His background was not in winemaking or vineyard management, so he hired famed enologist André Tchelistcheff to come to Rutherford to establish the estate. Tchelistcheff went on to create the prestige cuvée Library Selection Rutherford Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, and mentored many of the next generation of Napa winemakers, including Robert Mondavi, Mike Grgich and Joe Heitz.

The deep roots of Beaulieu Vineyard were first planted back in 1900, when founder Georges de Latour noticed similarities with his native Bordeaux and declared the Napa Valley ideal for winemaking. He followed up on this belief by planting vineyards in Rutherford with grafted, phylloxera-resistant French vines. The Cabernet Sauvignons that de Latour crafted from these grapes gave the world its first taste of California’s promise as a world-class winemaking region. In 1938 de Latour hired the young Russo-French enologist Andre Tchelistcheff, who would become California’s most distinguished winemaker. Tchelistcheff’s knowledge of traditional French techniques and willingness to experiment in local conditions brought BV the Grand Sweepstakes Award at the Golden Gate International Exposition, and led to the creation of Napa Valley’s first reserve wine, Beaulieu Vineyard Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.

2001 Chateau Thibeaud-Maillet Pomerol, Bord...
$159.00
FREE shipping.Thibeaud-Maillet is a real jewel. This appelation produces some of the most famous and sought after wines in Bordeaux such as Chateau Petrus, which lies only 400 meters from Chateau Thibeaud-Maillet! A tiny 1.7 ha estate, the 30-50yo vines are planted in a sandy, gravelly alluvial soil, which overlies Tertiary clay. The wines from this estate have a subtle, teasing, complex fruit with a silky delivery on the palate. For drinking now to 2025+.
Merlot/CabFranc blend. Taste: Rich and already complex with a nice warm touch of wood. Light ripe prunes, cherry pits, earthy and almost port-like, yet very elegant. A nice balance, layered with fine acidity and ripe tannins. Great length with clean fruit in the aftertaste. This wine showcases Pomerol and optimally ripe Merlot at its best for an affordable price.

2002 Antinori Villa Antinori Super Tuscan IGT
$69.90
Villa Antinori is a mid-weight red blend of mostly Sangiovese, with small amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah from vineyards across a number of appellations within Tuscany. A delicious bottle of wine. Beautiful ruby in the glass, no bricking. Very fruit forward, delicious notes of black cherries with a hint of citrus, and velvety smooth. Tastes like it could cost twice as much and you would still be impressed.
Smoky, pruny, gamey, sweaty saddle leather, black cherry, tobacco nose. Rich, dry, slightly chunky and tight palate. Peppery, smoky, prune, chocolate, resin, mineral, vanilla flavours with a distinctly meaty, cassis note on the finish. A bit chunky but very good effort for the vintage.

Chateau Angelus 1989, St.Emilion Grand Cru ...
$569.00
FREE shipping.Named Chateau Angelus because the sound of the Angelus bells, from three, different, nearby churches that can all be heard in the vineyard at the same time, for eight generations the De Boüard de Laforest family have owned and run Chateau Angelus which is situated in Saint-Émilion.
The 1989 Angélus is a vintage that I have tasted multiple times from various formats. It remains one of my favorite of that era. Still quite deep in color, it has a glorious, almost hubristic bouquet of layers of lush black cherries, cedar, sage and meat juice aromas as it moves assuredly into its secondary phase. The palate has always been very harmonious and smooth, the tannins finer than preceding vintages. There is lovely grip here, and black truffle and smoky notes appear on the finish. A quite marvelous Château Angélus. Tasted at the château.

Gaja Barbaresco 2003 DOCG
$539.00
FREE Express shipping. Grapes: 100% Nebbiolo.
Aroma: The nose is almost sensual in its complexity, with aromas of forest fruits, plums, licorice, mineral and coffee scents. Taste: Long, complex finish with fine, silk-like tannins and good acidity; dense structure, full of super-ripe fruit.
"Gaja's 2003 Barbaresco may well challenge its bigger siblings as the most successful of these new releases. Made in a style that combines expressive aromatics, the ripeness of the vintage and classic structure, it is an awesome effort. Though it offers plenty of super-ripe fruit and notable concentration, it never comes across as being heavy and displays exceptional overall balance."
