Chassagne-Montrachet "Les Chambres" 2022 Claude Leblanc

A characterful red from the Les Chambres lieu dit in Chassagne-Montrachet. Brilliant ruby with purplish highlights. Aromas of Morello cherry, cherry pit, wild strawberry, gooseberry, and raspberry, with subtle animal and spice notes. On the palate it has real substance and fleshy fruit that partly cloaks youthful tannins. With a few years of bottle age it gains concentration and layered complexity.

Vineyard and Vinification
• Appellation: Chassagne-Montrachet, Les Chambres
• Grape: 100% Pinot Noir
• Vintage: 2022
• Fermentation: Open vats with cap punching and pump overs, about 15 days on skins
• Aging: French oak with about 30% new barrels, minimum 12 months

Tasting Profile
Red berry fruit with floral lift and gentle spice. Firm but refined tannins, good freshness, and a savory, persistent finish.

Food Pairings
Grilled or roast lamb, marbled meats, grilled pork, and spiced poultry such as curry or tandoori. Feathered game is a classic match.

Site and Soils
Southern Côte de Beaune. Mixed limestone and marl soils, with pockets of pebbly limestone and sandy Jurassic deposits that give both fruit and structure.

Quick Take
Supple, savory Chassagne rouge with real depth. Lovely red fruit now and the structure to improve over the next few years.
