A benchmark aged Montepulciano d’Abruzzo from one of the region’s most important historic producers.
The Illuminati family has been making wine since 1890, and Zanna is their flagship Riserva. Sourced from a single vineyard in Colline Teramane DOCG, this wine is made from 100% Montepulciano and built for long aging.
The 2005 vintage is fully mature. Deep garnet with aromas of blackberry, dark cherry, dried flowers, leather, and subtle spice. On the palate it is velvety, structured, and elegant, with mellow tannins, excellent concentration, and a long, savory finish. Powerful without heaviness.
This is not everyday Montepulciano. It’s a serious, cellar-worthy Italian red that shows how profound the grape can be with time.
