The Morellino name is a diminutive form of morello, and so translates as "little dark one". This etymology is almost identical to another of Sangiovese's many synonyms, Brunello. A few sources suggest that morello refers to a breed of horse unique to this part of Tuscany. Scansano's viticultural origins date back to Etruscan times, and the quality of the local wines has been documented for centuries.
This bottle of wine is superb. I sampled it in Scansano, Italy and had to have a case when I returned home. Simple Wine is amazing and within 2 weeks of ordering...the wine was at my door. Chi Chi
